Richard Boyd, M.S., LPC, NCC

Executive Director Hill Country Services, LLC

I have worked extensively with veterans & their families from all branches of the military as well as those with anxiety disorders, depression, PTSD, and personality disorders.

I am integrative which means I use a number of counseling theories. But, my theoretical orientation includes: cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), solution focused brief therapy (SFBT), and dynamic relations counseling (DRC). This means that I will work with you to design the most helpful treatment plan that will meet your needs. I am a certified CPT trauma therapist.

Education and Experience

I graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a graduate certificate in Integrative Behavioral Health. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of TX. I am also a National Certified Counselor by the National Board for Certified Counselors.

I have a Master of Divinity from Westminster Theological Seminary and am an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church in America. I have served both as a civilian pastor as well as an active duty Air Force chaplain. I have been in the field of counseling for over 16 years, most of that working in the field of pastoral and Christian counseling. One of my strengths is in the ability to integrate the spiritual pillar of wellness. Check out my blog entry below for more information on how that works:

Things to Consider Before Seeing a Therapist

Going to a counselor is a big step for many people. We often try to fix the problem on our own. Or we just bury it beneath the surface. Unfortunately though, the problem does not just go away and it begins to impact other areas of our lives. Often times, our loved ones are the first ones to encourage us to talk to someone. Once we finally admit that we need to get help, (which is a huge step, by the way!), then the question is what do I do next?

My encouragement to you is to do your research and don’t settle. Make sure you find someone that you feel that you can connect with. If you start meeting with a therapist and it is not working for you then please do not just stop getting counseling. Find another counselor. Too many people have told me that they have just dealt with their problems because they tried counseling at one point in their lives but they stopped because it did not work for them.

Please know that counselors are an instrument, or a tool that can help you bring about change. If the instrument is not doing the job then find the right one. I would like to help you in that process. Before we sign up for our first session, let’s talk about your concerns and I will point you in the right direction- whether that is with me or another counselor.

Hill Country Services was founded in 2017 to provide pastoral support to active duty military. In September 2021, Hill Country Services, LLC began offering mental health counseling services to individuals and organizations in the San Antonio area.
